Valentine's Day and White Day
Ah, Valentine's Day, February 14th.~ Unlike in America, Valentine's Day is celebrated differently in Japan. Girls give gifts, chocolates, and cards to their boyfriends, coworkers, or anyone close to them. Women give chocolates not just for the feeling of romance!
This tradition, though, wasn't started until the 1960s by the Morinaga Confectionery company as a marketing strategy. On Valentine's Day, the girls give gifts to the guys.
Wait a minute! What about the girls, what do they get? Well, in Japan, girls have a special day of their own called White Day. White Day was also created by the Morinaga Confectionery company.
On White Day, the guys are expected to return the favor to girls, as the girls did for them on Valentine's Day. White chocolates and regular chocolates are given to girls, as well as gifts, cards, and sometimes clothes.

Valentine Day! “Barentain Dei!”
There are two different groups of guys that girls give chocolates to.
1st Group - Giri Choco; given to friends, bosses, colleagues, and close male friends.
2nd Group - Honmei Choco; Given to crushes, boyfriends, lovers, and husbands.
